  1. AUTOMATION LAB The Main Systems and learning enviroments for Laboratory Use 1 AUTOMATION SYSTEMDESIGN PROJECTs Automation systems in the laboratory can be divided in the Manufacturing automation and process automation. Both of the technologies consist of optional technologi-cal possibilities. All of the technologies includes modern design tools, system hardware and target of application. Main target application in the case of manufacturing au-tomation is based on the Festo’s MPS tehcnology pre-sented in the figure 1 and in the case of process auto-mation so called PILOT-process which is based on field-bus technology is shown in the figure 2. 1.1 MANUFACTURING AUTOMATION In the field of manufacturing automation there are seve-ral devices to be controlled by the PLCs. The most mul-tifunctional in the aim of automation project is the Fes-to’s MPS (Modular Production System) system consis-ting 5 different modules. In the Figure 1 the Festo’s combining stations are presented. Figure 2. PILOT-process The distant model of the PILOT-process is from the refreshment industry such a producing soft drinks. The process includes three subprocesses called reactor, color control and dosing. The process can be controlled and monitored with the both METSO DNA and SIEMENS PCS7 systems. These systems includes full scale design environments for the education of student group up to 15 persons. The instrumentation of the process is based on Profibus DP/PA-technology. Fieldbusses are maintained with the bus analyzer and diagnostic softwares such a Fieldcare, PDM and ASM. 2 INSTRUMENTATION AND MEASUREMENT TECHNOLOGY Measurement tehcnology is strongly related to the automation technology. Due this the field devices used in the industry for the basic or analyze measurements are educated in the laboratories. In addtion CCD-camera tehcnologies increase the awaraness of measurement technology. Hart scientific temperature calibrator is special device for the calibration tehcnology. The instrumentation design is based on ALMA-software (Automation Lifecycle MAnagement). Emersons and Honeywells wireless instrumentation technologies are also presented in the laboratories. 3 CONTROL ENGINEERING Control engineering education is started with the leybold’s and Feedback’s technology. Identification and for example Fuzzy control is educated in the Matlab/Simulink envinronment. MPC can be educated with the full scale industrial paper machine or power plant simulator by Metso. Figure 1. Festo’s combining stations. Manufacturing automation design includes PLC-technology from Siemens, Festo and OMRON. As well as HMI’s (Human Machine Interface) from wonderware and Siemens. 1.2 PROCESS AUTOMATION Process automation can be roughly divided into three: instrumentation, automation systems and control engineering. Each of those consist of certain design processes. PILOT-process in the figure 2 offers good implementation platform for the design processes.
