  1. Smart transmission system Marián Belyuš 18. April 2012 R&D Conference ČEZ Měření ČEPS, a.s.

  2. Table of contentsPrincipal factors with impact on ČEPSSET Plan of European Commission and EEGI initiativeSelected R&D activities in ČEPSIllustration of on-line operating information at ČEPS

  3. External factor (Super Grid) Source: Project EWIS

  4. PV boom(PV = Photo-Voltaic power sources) Internal factor and development in PV Source: BMU

  5. PVE- History & maximum of power generation Total PV power generated in 2011 = 2073 GWh Generated power (monthly) Max. power generation value per a unit time period (15 min)

  6. Regional factor - Nuclear Phase-Out in Germany Biblis A 1167 MW Neckarwestheim 1645 MW Philippsburg 1890 MW Unterweser 1345 MW Isar 1 878 MW Biblis B 1240 MW Brunsbüttel 771 MW Krümmel 1345 MW ------------------------------------- Total: 8281 MW Source: BMU

  7. European Electricity Grid Initiative – EEGI • SET Plan – a conceptual document of EC for support of research & development in power industry • One of supported areas is represented by EEGI

  8. Projects proposed by EEGI in 2011 X X X X X X X X- Priorities of ČEPS for 2012

  9. Selected R&D activities in ČEPS • ACM - Automatic central monitoring of VHV & EHV equipment condition within TS • Dynamic Rating Variable ampacity of transmission line in dependence on climatic conditions • EPG - European Power Grid • FACTS - Flexible AC Transmission Systems • GCC - Grid Control Cooperation • eHIGHWAY 2050 Modular Development Plan on Pan-European Electricity Highways System • SCOPF - Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow • TSC - Transmission System Cooperation • UMBRELLA - Toolbox for Common Forecasting, Risk Assessment, and Operational Optimisation in Grid Security Cooperation of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) • UA&MD - Study of connectivity of Ukraine & Moldavia with continental Europe • WAMS - Wide Area MonitoringSystem

  10. TSC - Joint control of operational security of TSs in the region, coordination of corrective actions I FI NO SE EST LV DK LT NI RoI UK PL NL DE BE TSC members LU CZ SK TSO with status of observer HU AT Former sphere of UCTE grid FR CH RO SI HR RS BA BG ME IT FYROM ES AL PT GR CY • 50Hertz Transmission (Germany) • Amprion (Germany) • APG (Austria) • ČEPS (Czech Republic) • ELES (Slovenia ) • EnBW Transportnetze (Germany) • PSE Operator (Poland) • Swissgrid (Switzerland) • TenneT TSO (Netherlands) • TenneT TSO (Germany) • VKW-Netz (Austria) • HEP (Croatia) • MAVIR (Hungary) • The initiative covers the territory in Central Europe • with population more than 165 million

  11. TSC improves operational security of TSs in Europe • TSC offers integrated output data which are useful for TSOs, as well as for other existing security initiatives (centralised or decentralised...) • TSC is compatible with all organisational forms (among other TSOs) in Europe • TSC can be extended, if there is an interest of other TS operators (even to other spheres of synchronous part of European grid) Roemmerkirchen TSC - SSC… CORESO Brussels CTDS TSC for TSOs in a decentralised way ENTSO-E Europe (DACF …)

  12. TSC -TSO Security Cooperation • Tool for closer cooperation between Transmission System Operators (TSOs) • It solves unfavourable operating situations (caused e.g. by high transit of power from wind parks in Northern Germany). • These flows of power result from increased installed power generation capacities in wind power stations as well as from prices of power on spot markets (such prices of power are directly related to the volume of wind power generation) Typical flows of power generated from wind

  13. Real-Time Awareness & Alarm System (RAAS) in Central Europe • Global knowledge of situation in electricity systems and real-time information on main parameters which are available at individual dispatching centres • RAAS provides warnings and alarms relating to grid conditions to all TSOs in the whole region in real time. 50Hertz PSE 50Hertz TENNET AMPRION CEPS TENNET ENBW TSO 3 SEPS TSO 1 AMPRION APG TSO 2 MAVIR SWISSGRID ELES TSO 4 TSO 6 TSO 21

  14. UMBRELLA • THEME [ENERGY.2011.7.2-1] • [Innovative tools for the future coordinated and stable • operation of the pan-European electricity transmission system] • Full name of the project: • Toolbox for Common Forecasting, Risk Assessment and Operational • Optimisation in Grid Security Cooperation of Transmission System Operators (TSOs) • 9 TSOs • 5 Universities • 1 Research centre
