  2. What is causing the African Rainforests to disappear? • The Pygmies is the name of the tribe that lives in the rainforest. Some customs are hunting and gathering, and they are eco friendly.

  3. What is the name of the tribe that lives in the Rainforest?Describe some of their customs. • The Pygmys live in the rainforest. Some customs are hunting and gathering, and they are eco friendly.

  4. Meat is easier to come by in the United states than in the rainforest. List all the animals they get meat from. • They get meat from Buffalos, rats, a small antelope and some baka snares.

  5. List and describe four different animals • Pygmy hippo: Pygmy hippo lives exclusively in the lowlands and wet forests. • Gorilla: Africa’s best known species of gorilla is the Mountain Gorilla. • Okapi: The Okapi is kin to a giraffe. • Black Columbus Monkey: One of Africa’s most endangered species of monkeys.

  6. One plant in the rainforest is used widely throughout the world; in fact you may have some of it in your house. What is the name of the plant? Describe it. • Mahogany is one of Africa’s most common plants. Its smooth texture is not as refined as American mahogany, but is highly valued in making furniture such as stair cases, wood floors and boat building.

  7. What is the climate like in the rainforest? Average rainfall? Average temperature? • Usually around 73 – 80 degrees is the average temperature. 63 – 79 inches is the average rainfall. The climate is hot and sticky.

  8. What is the main reason the rainforests are being cut down? • Money roads and foreign logging companies.

  9. The African rainforest grows in the Congo River basin. What large river runs through the basin? • The Congo River.

  10. List and describe three types of vegetation found in the rainforest. • Oil Palm: A native of west and central Africa, the Oil Palm accounts for only 14% of the worlds plant oils. • OKOUME:Found only in Central Africa, okoumE accounts for 90% of the trees logged in Gabon’s Rainforest. • Mahogany: Mahogany is one of the most commercially popular woods from the African Rainforest.
