Confused About SMS and Metrics? • SMS – Sustainability Metrics Scorecard • Set of goals(e.g. WWMD, HHH, Clean up, Stakeholder Meetings, Learners to Leaders…) • Reporting media: • Web Metrics Incident Reports • Web Metrics Surveys • In the past we had these “Incident Types” • As of 7/20/2011 – 1,400 **SMS** events • Problems: • events reported in wrong categories • vague descriptions • trouble sorting • New “Incident Types” and survey questions by Sylwia LaBudde

We Want to Share Kathleen Kirkham – Smithfield Foods Sustainability Coordinator kathleenkirkham@smithfieldfoods.com. • Notify Kathleen prior to the event for press releases via email. • “Attach Document to Notes” – list in “Additional Notes” section that there is a document attached. by Sylwia LaBudde

  4. **SMS** - Helping Hungry Homes (HHH) • Donations to Food Banks and organizations that distribute food to the hungry in the • community. • Must carry a HHH sticker/stamp • Include the following in “Short Description”: • name of the food bank or organization • lbs donated • No survey entry  no SMS credit. by Sylwia LaBudde

  5. **SMS** - Community Clean Up • Events should be conducted as part of a sanctioned program or • event (e.g. Adopt-A-Highway, Clean the Bay) • Include the following in “Short Description”: • name of the associated program or event • number of employees and man-hours donated to conduct the event • No survey entry  no SMS credit. by Sylwia LaBudde

  6. **SMS** - World Water Monitoring Day (WWMD) • Include the following in “Short Description” : • event location • number of participants involved, as well as the name of their group • (e.g. 25 Wilson Middle School 8th grade students) • No survey entry  no SMS credit. by Sylwia LaBudde

  7. **SMS** - FFA Event • Include the following in “Short Description” : • event name or description(e.g. Sampson County FFA Fair) • extent of involvement (e.g. donated money, judged competition, spoke about Smithfield) • No survey entry  no SMS credit. by Sylwia LaBudde

  8. **SMS** - Stakeholder Meeting • Speak or present material on Smithfield’s sustainability efforts. • Stakeholders include local citizen or government organizations. • Attending a town hall meeting without presenting DOES NOT COUNT. • Include the following in “Short Description”: • groups and/or people present • topics discussed (e.g. overview of Smithfield’s 2011 Sustainability Goals) • No survey entry  no SMS credit. by Sylwia LaBudde

  9. **SMS** - Environmental Project Submitted • Receiving an award or recognition is NOT in this category. • If submitting multiple projects, only send out a single incident notification. • Include the following in “Short Description”: • specify the name of an organization to which projects were submitted • specify the number of projects/applications submitted • No survey entry  no SMS credit by Sylwia LaBudde

Award, Recognition, or Other Event • This category includes all types of awards and recognitions (e.g. AMI MAPS Awards, • Governor’s Awards) • Include the following in “Short Description” • describe the award or recognition, as well as the reason why it was received • specify the name of an organization presenting the award • These events DO NOT get entered into monthly metric surveys. by Sylwia LaBudde

  11. **SMS** - Learners to Leaders • IOC requirement • Include the following in the “Short Description” • specify the organization and their mission • the amount of contribution • No survey entry  no SMS credit by Sylwia LaBudde

Non–SMS Event • This category encompasses all other events that are NOT specifically listed in • previous “incident types”. • Examples include small food donations, money donations to various groups, • volunteer activities, Relay for Life, fundraisers, etc. • Include the following in “Short Description”: • event description • specify the amount of money, time, product, and/or volunteer hours • Consolidate and summarize similar events (e.g. multiple non-HHH food donations) by Sylwia LaBudde
