Who are we? • Corbin Independent School System of Corbin, Kentucky: Corbin Pre-school, Corbin Primary, Corbin Intermediate, Corbin Middle, Corbin High, Corbin Education Center • Located in Southeastern Kentucky between Lexington, Kentucky and Knoxville, Tennessee (Whitley, Laurel, and Knox counties) • Grades 9-12 ( Student Enrollment 855) • 290 students (Free and or Reduced Lunch) • 86 Staff Members with 80% holding a Master’s Degree or Rank I

Major Academic Accomplishments • BASED ON CURRENT STATE-WIDE TESTING RESULTS • Classified as one of the DISTINGUISHED Districts in Kentucky and one of the few Highest Performing High Schools in Kentucky with 94% percentile ranking • Ranked #11 in the Top 15 High Schools in KY (U.S. News and World Report) • 62.7% College and Career Readiness (KY RANK: 42.7%) • 92.1% Graduation Rate (KY RATE: 77.8%) • Ranked higher than state average in all four End-of-Course Tests • 2011-2012 ACT Composite Score of 20.1 (KY AVERAGE: 19.0) • 2011-2012 High Schools That Work Silver Medal School

Extra curricular accomplishments • State Thespian Champion (Performing Arts and Theater Program) • Multiple Athletic State Honors and Awards • Our newspaper, yearbook, and graphic arts received many state honors. Student Y Club was awarded the Delegation of Excellence at KYA. Students were selected for All-State Choir and Band. Marching Band qualified for State Semi-finals for 5th straight year. FCCLA went to both region and state competitions. Our academic teams advanced to state.

What we offer Students • 9 distinct AP Courses (290 participating students) 15 Accelerated Courses/ College Credit Classes through EKU-NOW • 17 co-curricular and 14 extra-curricular clubs • Implementation of “Bring Your Own Device” technology movement • Credit and Drop-Out Recovery Classes • Tri-semester schedule (12 weeks/5 class per day) • Project Lead the Way (Engineering and Bio-medical) • 27 credit “honors diploma” (KY REQUIREMENT: 22 credit)

Career and Technical Education at C.H.S • Corbin Area Technology Center located on C.H.S. main campus offering certifications inBusiness, Consumer Science, Communication Academy, Corbin Technical Center Offerings-Drafting, Electrical, Automotive, Information Technology (CISCO Networking and Computer Repair), Welding, Health Sciences, Fire/Emergency Medical Services (Certification available as First Responder and Emergency Medical Technician), Culinary Arts • Solid Collaboration between CTE Instructors and Administrators and CHS Instructors and Administrators • Current enrollment of 145 students who attend classes at both Corbin High School and Corbin Area Technology Center from 1-3 blocks per day on three different trimesters.

Steps to make the good better and the better best • Focus on data driven instruction • Analyzing and Mining test data to develop a 5 year plan to include raising ACT Composite, attendance percentages, and diploma reform • Focus on getting a higher number of Career Pathway “completers” • Methodology incorporation of Project-Based Learning into Core Classes and C.T.E.
