But are these entrance exams really relevant? Well, on the one hand, I feel that these exams combat nepotism on a larger scale and help the deserving candidates achieve what they have always desired for. Let us first learn about the need for entrance exams: First among many: When around 15 lakh students apply for 10,000 seats in a university or a college, conducting an entrance test becomes inevitable. It is only through the competitive exams like JEE, NEET, GATE and CAT apt candidates can be selected. Take GATE Online Test Series here. To check the persistence and mindset of the candidate: Entrance exams come with limited time duration and high level of pressure, this helps in reviewing candidates knowledge, preparation strategy and ways in which he can handle the load.

4. Excellent way to examine the efficiency of teaching methods: Entrance tests evaluate not only the students but also the teaching methodology and strategy developed by the teachers that can be seen from student’s progress and marks. At times, a good student could get confused and nervous during the examination. Various competitive exams encourage teaching to the test practice. Which means, teaching a fixed curriculum focused on passing a specific review. This method prevents the curriculum to a set range of knowledge and skills. Though there are some disadvantages to entrance tests, a little tweak in the system could help the students reap the full benefits of these exams that are meant for the benefit of our children.
