  2. Introduction to the Course The purpose of this presentation is to acquaint you with the material necessary to obtain your, entry-level, Technician Class U.S. Amateur Radio license.

  5. Student Introductions • Your Name • A little about yourself • Why are you taking this course • What do you already know about ham radio • What is your experience with other radio communications • What are your expectations in this class HPST Technician Course

  6. Class Norms • Class will start on time • Students are expected to complete reading assignments • Students are expected to complete research assignments • Students are expected to study about 30 minutes/day • Ham radio isn’t a spectator sport – participate in the class HPST Technician Course

  7. Course Philosophy • Introduce the concepts of electricity and radio communications • Do your own memory work • 20 - 30 hours of study will be required • Use of practice exam software and/or web sites are highly recommended HPST Technician Course

  8. Materials • Must have – the Technician class study guide: The ARRLHam Radio License Manual (HRLM) • Available from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) or see your Instructor • Also highly recommended - The ARRL FCC Rule Book (out of print) • The ARRLs FCC Rules and Regulations book has replaced the above, but undetermined quality • Hilton Sport and Hobby Shop HPST Technician Course

  9. Get Your License • Study the material in the HRLM • Review the questions in the back of the book • Use these PPT’s at www.w3af.net/technician_class • Take interactive practice exams (AA9PW, QRZ, etc.) • Pass a 35 question multiple choice exam HPST Technician Course

  10. Elmers • An “Elmer” is an experienced amateur radio operator who helps you get started in amateur radio, study for your license exams or upgrades, or offers any similar encouragement. • If you don’t have an “Elmer” to mentor you, ask for one. HPST Technician Course
