  1. Asteroid Impact By: Susan Ross And Gwen Huot

Five Senses • Feel- The intense heat or the tremble of the explosion. • Smell- The dust in the air or maybe even the smell of the fallen trees. • Taste- The extreme heat as it flows all around you. • See- The beautiful colors of the explosion maybe even the trees falling by the millions. • Hear- The explosion first hand or the people shouting to each other.

  3. Cause and Effects The Alvarez Impact Theory • If an asteroid that Is 4-9 miles in diameter hit the earth today it would cause… • Huge fires throughout the world. • The increase of activeness in already active volcanoes. • Seafloor vibrations triggering tsunamis. • Intense storms with high wind speeds. • Chemicals and water in the air to mix and cause acidic rain.

Cause and Effects (continued) • Heat and humidity from the impact would incinerate (burn up) all, or most of, the life forms in the path of the asteroid. • Dust and debris from the asteroid would go into the atmosphere and cause… • The heat from the sun to not reach Earth’s surface and there for cause a dramatic decrease in temperature globally. • Most organisms to die because they would not adapt to the decrease in temperature.

  5. Effects from the Asteroid on living organisms • Since plants draw their energy from the sun and the dust would block out the heat from the sun, plants would not produce their source of food and energy. • With the lack of food and energy many plants and phytoplankton would die and cause a decrease in the atmosphere’s oxygen levels. • With most of the oxygen out of the atmosphere gone, both land and ocean creatures would not be able to live in the harsh oxygen levels.

  6. Effects on the Food Chain • Herbivores (plant eaters) would die because of the lack of their food source, or plants. • Since the herbivores are the carnivores’ (meat eaters) source of food, and the Herbivores are dieing, the carnivores are forced to eat their own kind. • With the larger animals dieing, the smaller animals have some food from the larger animals’ dead bodies for a long period of time.

Safety Measures • When an asteroid is scheduled to come into contact with the earth, the safety measures that can be taken to avoid death is to… • Get off the planet • Go deep underground in a stable, environment that can withstand the intense heat and atmosphere conditions. • And last, but not least hope it’s not a 4-9 mile in diameter asteroid.
