University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”Department of Public Health and Management • One of the traditional Departments of the oldest  school of medical education in Romania • Founded in 1942, the Public Health Department, is one of the oldest of the nationally accredited schools of public health • Trough the experience of its teaching staff, by the number of students, as well as the quality of courses, during 6 decades of activity, it became one of the most important, recognized, professional authority of the national public health Department of Public Health and Management

  3. Mission The overarching mission of the Public Health discipline is to support, promote and advocate public's health through educating, learning, discovery, and communication Department of Public Health and Management

Objectives • to provide the highest level of education and formation for: • students, • Public health practitioners, • public health scientists, • medical practitioners, • decision makers • to strengthen health capacities and services for local, regional and national public health services • to elaborate manuals, guidelines, reference training materials • to advocate, disseminate health information, and increase awareness of public health as a public good and fundamental right Department of Public Health and Management

Postgraduate programmes • Main beneficiaries of the postgraduate program According to our estimation there is a need for training in public health for at least 400 individuals at national level, including professionalsfrom: • Ministry of Health and Family, • District Public Health Authorities, • National and Local Health Insurance Funds, • Institutes of Public Health, • hospitals • Officials from district or local councils, • NGOs’ officials or other donors • Community members Department of Public Health and Management

Future activities • Folow-up of existing programmes • Broadening the postgraduate education program (a 12 weeks program leading to a certification of competence in the field of public health and health services management offer of postgraduate courses for PH specialists on identified shortage areas: health planing and evaluation, applied epidemiology to public health, health administration, health economics and social marketing, EU policy and integration • Implementation of Bologna agenda • Developing new PH Master programmes • dual PH -law, PH - social sciences • dual Master of Public Health and Master of Science in Nursing • Family Nurse Practitioner Department of Public Health and Management
