What does Digital Technologies mean? • Software Development including Games design • Network and Systems support • Creative and multimedia technology • Hardware Design* Business and Enterprise will be embedded during Years 10 & 11 and made available to study in Years 12 & 13. *Hardward Design will NOT be covered at the Digital Studio School
Role of employers • Employers are pivotal to the success of a Studio School • They will be involved in the following: • Regular work placements • Half a day a week for Yr. 10 & Yr. 11 • Two days a week for Yr. 12 & Yr. 13 • Support the development of the curriculum. • Set real world problems as projects for the learners and provide support and feedback in this process.
Project Based Learning • What is it? • It is easier to describe it in terms of what it isn’t. • It is not a project that is completed at the end of a series of lessons. • It is not an activity that is undertaken to add variety to the curriculum. • It is not a piece of course work. • It is a project that will allow learners to develop skills, knowledge and understanding as they work their way through a real problem trying to find a solution.
Why Project Based Learning Let’s look at a video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMCZvGesRz8
Personal Coaches This is one of the biggest differences between a Studio School and a secondary school or academy. EACH learner will have a Personal Coach EACH learner will have at least a fortnightly one to one Personal Coaching session EACH learner will benefit from the support that a Personal Coach will provide. This support may be linked to progress in the curriculum or with the development of personal and social skills.
What will a Personal Coach do? It will not be about telling you what to do. It will be helping you and empowering you to make decisions.
