Workshop Objectives • After participating in this workshop, you will learn: • The library’s mission to support media literacy • Three types of digital media that can transform a traditional paper-based assignment • How to work with the USF Library Digital Studio to transform a traditional assignment into a digital media assignment • The resources and services that the USF Library's Digital Learning Studio can offer you and your students

  4. Media Literacy Defined as the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create information in a variety of formats, including print and non-print messages.

Transforming Paper-Based Assignments • Questions to ask • Will the new multimedia assignment require the student to incur any costs? • Will the students experience a steep learning curve? • How much time should you allow for the students to complete the assignment? • Multimedia assignments can take a long time and may be best suited for final projects • Consider a strategy of deliverables • Groups work best • How will you evaluate the new assignment?

  10. Working with the DLS to Transform Your Assignment Allow time to plan (usually the semester before you plan to implement) Don’t worry about trying to be a technology expert Emphasize the critical thinking skills for the assignment, not the technology tools
