A Brief History of Facebook: From College Idea to Global Phenomenon

Launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook began as "thefacebook" and has evolved into a global social media giant.   2. History • Launched on February 4, 2004 • Mark Zuckerberg original founder • Dispute amongst whether Zuckerberg stole the idea of facebook from fellow students at Harvard • Originally called thefacebook • Eduardo Saverin financially contributed

  3. Usability and Purpose • Users create a profile • Upload pictures, hobbies, music, interests, personal information • Many businesses now use it to join their “group” • Heavy for advertising industry • Catching up with old friends • Apps for games, and businesses

  4. This shows my information page showing things like where I work, education, photos and interests.

Subscriber info/ extra info • Face book targets people of all ages • Mainly those from High school and up • It was supposed to be regulated as the youngest age to be one in high school • It is pretty easy for just about anyone now to join • Free or charge • “More than 500 million active users” • “Users spend over 700 billion minutes per month” • Now mobile feature for portable devices
