Core subjects include reading or language arts, world languages, arts, mathematics, economics, science, geography, history, government and civics. • Global Awareness • Financial, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Literacy • Civic Literacy • Health Literacy • Environmental Literacy C. Learning and Innovation Skills Learning and innovation skills are what separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in today’s world and those who are not. Information, Media and Technology Skills In a technology and media-driven environment, students must be able to exhibit a range of functional and critical thinking skills, such as: • Information Literacy • Media Literacy • ICT (Information, Communications and Technology) Literacy C.   7. Life and Career Skills Today’s life and work environments require far more than thinking skills and content knowledge. The ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally competitive information age requires students to pay rigorous attention to developing adequate life and career skills, such as: • Flexibility and Adaptability • Initiative and Self-Direction • Social and Cross-Cultural Skills • Productivity and Accountability • Leadership and Responsibility C. ASEAN Background • The phased implementation of the K to 12 Education Reform program started this school year • New curricula for Grades 1 and 7 and 8 • Addition of universal kindergarten by virtue of RA 10157 • Additional two years in High School starting in SY 2016-2017 • Students graduate in basic education (after grade 12) ready for employment and/or higher education • Philippines Qualification Framework C.   11. Implications to TESD The Free Flow of Services as well as the Free Flow of Skilled Labourare among the characteristics in the realization of a single market and production base in ASEAN. Important Concerns • the labor and legal implications of the transition • senior high school curriculum for the various career pathways • public-private partnership in education particularly for SHS • Schools are allowed to adopt their own structure for monitoring learning and teaching systems • primary consideration: compliance with national educational policies, plans, and standards (Sections 21-22, BP 232) C.
