What do we mean by ASEAN? • A geo-political and economic organisation of ten countries • Aim to accelerate economic growth, social progress, cultural development, peace & stability and opportunities for member countries • Covers a land area of 4.46 million km² (3% of land) • Population of approx. 600 million (9% of the world pop) • As a single entity = 8th largest economy in the world • In 2011, combined GDP >US$ 2 trillion • Formed in 1967 • Economic integration in 2015 … • … through the medium of English www.britishcouncil.org
