  31. 1 Timothy 2:9 Modest: “well-arranged, seemly, modest” (Thayer, p. 356) “The well ordering is not of dress and demeanour only, but of the inner life; uttering indeed and expressing itself in the outward conversation.” (Trench, Synonyms of the New Testament, p. 346) Shamefastness: “a sense of shame, modesty” (Thayer, p. 14) “aidos (the word rendered “shamefastness,” sw)…is the nobler word, and implies the nobler motive; in it is involved an innate moral repugnance to the doing of the dishonorable act….The grief a man conceives from his own imperfections considered with relation to the world taking notice of them” (Trench, p. 68)

  34. Children Dressed Like Sluts Raise Disgust The 12- and 13-year-olds swarm like bees through the Gap in Georgetown. They buzz past the khaki pants and polo shirts that used to define the Gap look, on their way to ultra-low-rise bluejeans that ride well below the navel and black knit camisoles only slightly wider than a knee sock. They land at a rack of short cotton dresses with empire waists and spaghetti straps. A conversation ensues: Would a girl wear a bra of the same color with this? Or would bra straps show off better in a contrasting hue? How about wearing no bra at all? This is the world of naked fashion for girls from high school on down -- even to elementary school -- the less-is-more look flaunting [upper torso, sw], midriff,

  35. lower torso, sw]. Many, if not most, schools forbid or discourage it, parents and teachers complain about fighting the ‘whore wars,’ and yet the trend shows no signs of letting go after a decade of growth... What many find truly astonishing is the tender age at which it's first aimed, a trend that older teenage girls themselves tag as disgusting. “…ElizabethEly,an elder stateswoman in Washing- ton area private education, is a well-known champi- on of student expression at the Field School, a private school she started in the District that has never had a dress code. Yet even she has started pulling girls into her office because of bare midriffs and exposed cleavage. -->
