The Story of Hestia • First born of Cronus and Rhea • Cronus swallowed her and all her brothers and sisters because he was scared that one of his children would over power him • Rhea gave birth to Zeus • Hid him so Cronus couldn’t swallow • Instead tricked him into swallowing a rock • Made him sick and he vomited up all children, including Hestia, and rock

Hestia Facts • Hestia was the goddess of the hearth • eldest sister of Zeus and eldest daughter of Rhea and Cronus. • gentlest of all of the Olympians • Aka "Chief of the Goddesses“, "Hestia, First and Last” and "the Forgotten Goddess” • "Hestia, First and Last” because 1st born so last come out of Cronus (vomited) • Hestia means “the essence”, the true nature of things • Had no throne, tended the hearth fire in the hall of Olympus • represented sacred flame and circle, shows her in doing art
