  2. Prominent Qualities of Hestia Hestia is a lesser known goddess due to her peaceful nature. She avoids conflict and disputes at all cost. She is seen as a very isolated goddess. She did not venture into the wilderness like Athena or Artemis, and did not take a man unto her to be her husband. She remained inside with the hearth. Hestia focused on herself, unlike Persephone who would seek to please others.

  3. Role on Mount Olympus Hestia was the first born child of Cronus, soon to be eaten afterwards. She is considered the strongest of the original twelve Olympians. Hestia is considered the most generous and gentlest of the gods due to what she did on Mount Olympus. She chose to give up her place as an Olympian and give her throne to Dionysus, the god of wine. She remains on Mount Olympus to tend the sacred fire.

  4. How Hestia Affected the way Greeks viewed their World Hestia was given a sacrifice at the beginning and end of each meal. A hearth was dedicated to her in every city, and if the city were to move or begin a new colony, they would bring the fire from the old hearth to the new hearth. Her sacrificial animal was a pig. The Greeks believed that the hearth should not be neglected, and that food preparation and the home were extremely important. They gave offerings to the hearth in order to bring peace to their family and ask for Hestia’s help.
