CROATIAN COMMUNICATIONSand INFORMATION SOCIETY Regional & Local Activities Drivers Motivators • There are a number of ‘know-how’ ICT companies in Split City and its neighborhood • There is University of Split with over 10 000 students covering major areas including telecommunications, electronics, computer and information engineering, economy, laws, medicine • Split and Dalmatian region is famous touristic destination with a lot of seaside beatiful towns, a lot of islands with a number marines • Necessity of information infrastructure building in a number of industry and community areas (particularly in high-quality tourism, multimode transportation, local authorities...) • Necessity of using of a high-level know- ledge and potentialof young engineers (at present, a small number of new positions in development area/year) • High level of unemployment in the region in ICT industry (people are mainly employed in trade and service sectors) Seoul, GSSS’05May 16 (8)
