  11. Caller demographicsApril 2015 – March 2016 • 166,678 calls were received at the hotline Age • 10-14 years – 3% • 15-19 years – 22% • 20-24 years – 50% • >25 years – 25% Sex • In 2015: 62% female, 38% male (due to TV adverts on FP)

Reasons for Calling one2one Hotline Most common reasons • Interpersonal relationship issues (personal, social, and emotional); • Pregnancy and Birth control and • HIV AIDS • STI concerns By gender • Males – relationships, sexual relations & HIV • Female – pregnancy, birth control, abortion, sexual abuse

  15. Questions posted on bulk sms platform • Bulk sms platform used to send out information and receive feedback • Also useful for appointment reminders for ART (increased from 77% to 83% in 6 months)

Referrals • Callers are referred for appropriate services near them and followed up with phone calls • Services include FP, ANC, HTC, HIV care, GBV, other socio-media platforms • “They referred me and called me about after one week to see if I got the service”(Nairobi, Youth) • “Yeah when I called them the first time I told them the problem I had then after about three weeks they called back and asked if my problem was solved and I was satisfied and if I was happy with them that was very perfect (Kisumu, Youth)

Challenges • Identification of the most marginalized youth to use the one2one platform (especially sex workers, injecting drug users and the MSM population) • Scale up – additional space and counselors required to handle workload especially when there are media advertisements • Hotline Systems gaps – dynamic data management systems • Inadequate Youth Friendly Services to refer clients to • Continuous capacity building of counselors on emerging needs of adolescents and youth • Sustained financing for hotline Building Partnerships, transforming lives www.lvcthealth.org

Opportunities/considerations • Potential for supporting HIV/SRH interventions – HIVST, PrEP, FP • Policy influence – use data to inform policy • *Used lessons to inform guidelines on quality for health helplines with Dept of standards in MOH • Confidential platform for adolescent KPs to access information – linkage with KP programs • Expand range of services e.g. linkage to opportunities for employment creation and skills training, civic education • ICT- New dynamic ways and methods of reaching young people; quick, bite size, in their language, convenient • Age appropriate methodologies • Gender plays a role in how information is given and received Building Partnerships, transforming lives www.lvcthealth.org
