  1. PROFESSIONAL NETWORK Priti Parikh Matt Zedler

  2. Background • Forum for practising engineers, researchers, and professionals • Used to support and augment work of EWB with professional feedback • Members attend talks, help with project reviews, and serve as informal mentors • Currently underused database • Potential funding source • Much actual development experience • Mentor – Mentee partnership

  3. Strategy • PN to be utilized at a branch-level rather than a national-level • The branch president becomes the point of contact for the professionals in their region. If work load increases then a local network co-ordinator can be selected. • Need to take lead from different branch successes ie. Imperial • Collaboration with Publicity, Funding, req’d • Proposed budget of £500 for 2006-07

  4. Database • Core has access to the centralised nationwide list of Professional Network members. • Branch Presidents to have access to members listed in their branches. • Alumni members can be searched for on the web. • Professional network members can search for other members with similar interests on the web. • The members previously registered need to be transferred to the new list

  5. Timeline • Summer 2006 – Have all current PN members re-registered. Distribute document to branches clarifying database access procedure. • Fall 2006 – Work with Publicity to develop basic newsletter specifically aimed at PN. • Lent 2007 – Developing Transition documentation so that future PN coordinators have better idea of what exactly to do. • 2006-2007 – Solicit PN members’ advice to determine ways to better serve the PN community.

  6. Future Direction • Core to concentrate on ‘larger’ things • Core to email branches a note with suggestions on improving interaction with professional network members i.e. social events and talks and project reviews • Core to start organising workshops, talks and events for professionals • Core to attend professional network events organised at branches if required • Look at ways of getting PN members talking to each other more • Professionals to be roped in for funding
