HiSoftware Compliance SheriffAn Effective and Powerful Tool for Accessibility ComplianceWeb Conference at Penn State Jeff Singleton, HiSoftware
Your Speaker Today • Jeff Singleton Sr. Accessibility Consultant HiSoftware Inc.
Purpose Today • Intro/re-intro to Compliance Sheriff • Changes to expect in the CS 4.2 UI • Best Practices for: • Creating/Naming/Running scans • Creating scan views • Comparing scan results • Please hold your questions until the end…
Creating Scans • Think about what you are trying to accomplish with your scan • Target specific pages/transaction paths • Test run scans first with lower level settings to make sure they do what you want, then let them crawl deep • Include only the checkpoints you need • Plan your scans…
Name Your Scans • Avoid long names: • June 7 2013 Tuition and Financial Aid Department Broken Link Scan • Use shorter meaningful names: • TFA Bkn Link 20130607
Naming Convention Sample • Determine a format: [Dept or Grp] [Guideline] [Type of Scan] [Date or Qrt] • “Penn State Alumni Association WCAG 2.0 Level AA First Quarter 2013” becomes… PSAA WCAG2-AA 2013 Q1 • “Undergraduate Admissions WCAG 2.0 Level AA Create a MyPennState Profile Transaction Path” becomes… UA W2AA Trans Create Profile
Running Scans • Consider the size of your scan • How many levels? • How many pages? • Consider the checkpoints • Checkpoints can eat up time • Consider the load on server or network load • For scans that take time, schedule them to run during off-peak hours
Easier to ‘show’ the rest… • Let’s do a live walkthrough…
