In this warm-up activity, students will pick up a warm-up sheet and start practicing Stem and Leaf Plots, which are useful for depicting mean, median, mode, and range. Students will first order given data from least to greatest, focusing on how to represent tens as "stems" and ones as "leafs". They will be guided through examples using presidential ages and data about raisins, while learning the importance of including a key for clarity. This activity reinforces data organization and analysis skills.

Warm-Up (3/5) • Please pick up a warm-up sheet from the front of the classroom and begin working on it.
Stem and Leaf Plots… • are charts for mean median mode and range. • First thing we need to do is order from least to greatest • Then using the number in the TENS place order vertically from least to greatest
Things to remember… • Tens are the “stems” • Ones are the “leafs” *always include a key!
Example 1 • As of 1997, the following are the ages, in chronological order, at which U.S. Presidents were inaugurated: 57, 61, 57, 57, 58, 57, 61, 54, 68, 51, 49, 64, 50, 48, 65, 52, 56, 46, 54, 49, 50 • List in order: Stem | Leafs | | |
How many boxes actually contain more than 30 and less than 40 raisins? 2) What is the lowest estimated number of raisins? 3) What is the highest actual number of raisins? 4) What is the actual Median?
