  1. Okay for now Author: Gary D. Schmidt Genre: Coming of age Year published: 2011

  2. Setting Marysville, New York 1968. The setting is important because without it, it wouldn’t make sense what the main character describes how it looks and what he thinks. If the setting were different, the whole story would change because its in New York back in the 1900’s and it just makes more sense than in a different place.

  3. Characters • Doug: brown hair, tall, brown eyes. Criticalbecause he always judged people first on the way they look. Gutsy because he always took risks of what to do not caring of what the outcome is. • Lily: Long brown hair, green eyes, little shorter than Doug. Sarcastic because always jokes about things. Realistic because she is very smart and knows how to deal with things.

  4. Conflict The conflict in the story would be his older brother, Lucas, returning from Vietnam. Man vs. Man

  5. Summary of Plot Doug has to move to Marysville, New York where he doesn’t like it. His dad got fired from his job, His mom has to adjust to the new house, and his brother, Christopher, is being accused of stealing. Doug always goes to the free public library with Lily, a girl he met outside her dads deli where he’s the delivery boy every Saturday. His oldest brother, Lucas, is coming home from Vietnam.

  6. Theme Don’t judge something if you don’t know what its like. He judged Marysville, New York before he even knew what was in it. He judged everyone just by looking at them; not knowing them.

  7. Point of View Third person limited. Doug You understand what the main character feels and thinks. If the author chose a different point of view, it wouldn’t be as interesting.

  8. Symbolism Doug's signed Joe Pepitone jacket his friend gave him. It means a lot to him because Joe Pepitone is his role model and his friend gave it to him to remember when they went to the Yankees stadium together.

  9. Recommendation Its worth reading because from the point of view of the main character, Doug, you see what he thinks and feels of what he is experiencing. His point of view is very interesting. His life is very harsh from the way of things happen. It is worth reading.
