IIBC White Papers Sub-Committee: Background/Purpose • 2012 - IIBC formed “IIBC White Papers Sub-Committee” to coordinate the development, IIBC member and industry participation, production and dissemination of white papers for the IIBC to the Intelligent Buildings sector. • Purpose - to evaluate and recommend any new initiatives and activities the IIBC and sub-committee members believe the IIBC should undertake going forward. • Focus - to identify and recommend relevant "hot button" issues and analysis in the Intelligent Buildings market for new “IIBC White Papers” - that would be of value to members and their organizations. • Sub- Committee Composition: • Over twenty (20) member participants on White Paper Working Groups, in conjunction with research consultancies and CABA project administration. • Chaired by Kyle McNamara; Verizon Enterprise Solutions. • IIBC members and industry participants may suggest new white paper topics at any time to the sub-committee - who then select the most viable topics for development. • All white papers produced by IIBC White Papers Sub-Committee made available free to the entire Intelligent Buildings industry via the CABA Public Research Library. 2

IIBC White Papers Sub-Committee: Progress Current Progress: • On-going: Refresh ideas and feedback from IIBC members and industry participants to identify new areas of interest that are timely and relevant to the membership. • Initial focus on completion of three select White Papers; • Commercial Energy Management using cloud technology – Complete, January 2013 - Casey Talon, Sr. Analyst, IDC Energy Insights and Cloud Working Group (Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Siemens Industry, Inc., Priva Building Intelligence North America) • ROI /Building Life Cycle Costing analysis to quantify benefits of implementing fully converged technology in building automation, security & IT infrastructure – In Development, January 2013 – David Katz, Principal, Sustainable Resources Management Inc. and ROI/Life Cycle Working Group (Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Siemens Industry, Inc., exp.) – Working Group participation still open. • Impact of wireless on equipment (HVAC, security, life safety, lighting, etc.) in building automation layer – Deferred, December, 2012 - consultancy, academic institution, research consultancy still required for white paper development. • New White Paper – “Pros and Cons Relative to Incentives for Building Automation”; • In Development, January, 2013 – Cindy Woudenberg, Director of Marketing, Capital Review Group. Once background development completed, all IIBC members, industry participants and sub-committee members invited to join the Energy Incentives Working Group. 4. “The Impact of Cloud Computing on the Development of Intelligent Buildings” Lead Consultant: Casey Talon, Senior Analyst, IDC Energy Insights Working Group: Verizon Enterprise Solutions, Siemens Industry, Inc., Priva Building Intelligence North America, CABA Timeframe: November, 2012 – January, 2013 Purpose: Assess and promote next generation of intelligent building technologies, plus a whole-building approach; optimizing building performance and savings through integration of enterprise cloud technology Key Objectives: Based on some Working Group needs assessments - determine value of leveraging cloud technology for energy management services to enterprises, identify Customer’s IT requirements, identify market metrics, statistics and growth potential, identify a framework of for cloud technology for the BAS industry, to evolve BAS systems Approach: Intended to have primary and secondary research components - however, working group limited by available company information/reports or key contacts for primary research/survey component. Result - majority white paper secondary in nature – information from CABA, IDC, various submissions from working group members 4

5. “The Impact of Cloud Computing on the Development of Intelligent Buildings” – Summary Findings • The white paper will give building management decision-makers some perspective on the trend toward cloud delivery of smart building energy management solutions and key hurdles and opportunities around integration. • Summary Findings: • Cloud services are: Business products, services, and solutions delivered and consumed in real time over a network (most often, the Internet) • Cloud delivery of energy management solutions is a growing trend in the smart buildings marketplace • The convergence of information technology and building automation is delivering increasingly sophisticated smart building solutions to the market • IT architecture and reliance on analytics and data management that define smart building solutions make cloud services an ideal fit • Facilities management has long been separated from information technology - question remains how smart building industry will engage building operators and key decision makers to make them familiar and willing to invest in cloud based energy management solutions 5

6. “The Impact of Cloud Computing on the Development of Intelligent Buildings” – Conclusions • Conclusions: • Business executives are investing in smart building technologies to; • manage energy costs, streamline operations and maintenance, differentiate their facilities, achieve sustainability and corporate social responsibility goals, and comply with new building codes and efficiency mandates. • Cloud-based energy management solutions are emerging as a valuable delivery model to manage upfront costs and overcome resource constraints; • there is an expectation that cloud based energy management solutions will become more widely adopted as decision-makers become more familiar with the benefits of smart building analytics and data management and deploying truly holistic energy management strategies. • __________________________________________________________________ • The IIBC and CABA have agreed that this, and all white papers produced by the IIBC • White Papers Sub-Committee will be made available to all IIBC members and the entire • Intelligent Buildings industry via the CABA Research Library: • http://www.caba.org/research/public-research-library. 6

IIBC White Papers Sub-Committee: Next Steps • Distribution and promotion of “The Impact of Cloud Computing on the Development of Intelligent Buildings” to IIBC members and all Intelligent Buildings industry participants • Convenenext Sub-Committee meeting to develop and finalize concepts and Working Groups for; • ROI /Building Life Cycle Costing analysis to quantify benefits of implementing fully converged technology in building automation, security & IT infrastructure • Pros and Cons Relative to Incentives for Building Automation • Work with Sub-Committee SMEs – continue to have them join specific Working Groups and complete white papers “Needs Assessment and Objectives” for all initiatives • Continue to recruit vendors/academics/consultants on to the “Impact of Wireless” white paper • Begin work on “ROI /Building Life Cycle Costing Analysis” and “Pros and Cons Relative to Incentives for Building Automation“ – SMEs and IDC – set timeframe and process for completion This presentation can be downloaded at: http://www.caba.org/iibc, “Presentations” 7
