  3. Introduction • Field safety reviews • Joe Such – DOT Risk and Safety • To foster partnerships with DTSD • Informal • Documented by checklist

  4. Purpose • Recognition of hazards • Make sure employees know hazards • Make sure contractors are told about hazards • We will apply findings to future training • Ensure employees a safe workplace

  5. Focus • WisDOT personnel job hazard exposure • We’ll make DOT project leads and DOT contractors aware of the hazards • DOT PL and contractors will communicate with the general contractors

  6. When and where • Risk and Safety personnel will: • Contact oversight engineer or designee • Get a list of current projects • Schedule site visits

  7. Field safety review • Risk and Safety personnel • Accompanied during the review • Point out hazards • Discuss findings • Correct IDLH situations immediately • Goal is zero injuries/losses

  8. Checklist examples • General and General Duty Clause issues • Emergency numbers posted • MSDS easily available • First-aid kits stocked • Fall protection safety • Electrical safety • Excavation safety
