  3. Part 01 Base Form (Infinitive) The original form of the regular verb (remember a verb is an action) Example: Base Form-use Example Sentence: Do not use the computer.

  4. Part 02 Present Participle • How in the world do you form a present participle?! • First add the words am, is, or areto your base word then add –ingto the end of your base form. Example: is using Example Sentence: Allison is using the computer. Formula: am, is, or are + base form + ing=present participle

  5. Part 03 Past The Past form is created by simple adding -d or -ed to the ending of your base form. Remember, we are just talking about regular verbs the rule is different when we get to irregular verbs. Example: used Example Sentence: Alora used the computer first.

  6. Part 04 Past Participle Remember how you added am, is, or, are plus –ingto the base form to create the present participle? Well, you have to add has, have, or had to the past form to create the past participle. Example: have used Example Sentence: They have used the computers already. Formula: has, have, or had + past form=past participle

Irregular Verbs • What makes the verb irregular? • The past and past participle are formed in some other way than by adding –d or –ed. • What about the present participle form? • You still add am, is, or are plus –ing to form the present participle of an irregular verb. That one doesn’t change. Also, you still add has, have, or had to the past participle.

  8. Irregular Verb An irregular verb forms its past and past participle in one of these ways: -changing consonants -changing vowels -changing vowels and consonants -making no change at all

  9. Irregular Verb -changing consonant Example Base Form: bend Past: bent P. Participle: have bent send sent have sent

  10. Irregular Verb -Vowel Change Example Base Form: sing Past: sang P. Participle: have sung begin began have begun

  11. Irregular verb -Vowel and Consonant Change Example Base Form: catch Past: caught P.Participlehave caught go went have gone fly flew have flown

  12. Irregular Verb -No Change Example Base Form: set Past: set P. Participle: have set burst burst have burst
