  1. Exodus 34:29-30(NKJV) 29Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. 30So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.

  2. Have You Been With God? Exodus 34:29-30

  3. Have You Been With God? • Each and every one of us are influenced by certain things or certain people • When you spend time with someone, they tend to rub off on you • You might dress like them, talk like them, walk like them, even smell like them • The fact is, influence is real (I Cor. 15:33)

  4. Have You Been With God? • The question for us is, who do we spend the most time with? • Do you spend it with friends or coworkers? • Do you spend it in front of television characters? • Are you with those of the world who tend to pull you down?

  5. Moses & His God • Moses was chosen by God to be a leader for His people and His purpose (Ex. 3&4) • Moses was very close with God and talked with Him often • Following their exodus out of Egypt, Moses was called upon Mount Sinai so that God could speak with him and give him the law

  6. Moses & His God • However, something extraordinary happened to Moses after being on that mountain with God • Exodus 34:29-30 • The skin of Moses’ face shone while He spoke with God, and continued to do so after he came down from the mountain

  7. Moses & His God • Moses was reflecting the glory of God, because He had been with Him and in His presence • Following each time that Moses spoke with God, he would put a veil over his face to cover the reflection of God’s glory • Moses countenance showed that He had been with God

  8. The Apostles & Jesus • There is always a noticeable difference when someone spends time with God • Many of the apostles, especially the fishermen, were men who did not go to school beyond a certain age • Most would consider them to be “uneducated” men

  9. The Apostles & Jesus • Yet these men had spent 3 years with the master teacher • “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)

  10. The Apostles & Jesus • It was glaringly obvious that these men had spent time with the Son of God • There was no way for them to spend that time with Him and not be changed in some way • They had reflected time spend with Jesus here by the way they spoke and how they conducted themselves

  11. My God & I • Certainly we are no different in that we should reflect God if we are spending time with Him • The question is, are we? • If we spend time with God there are some things that should be apparent to others around us • How will they notice?

  12. My God & I • 1. Our countenance will beam with joy • If you are a child of God who has been redeemed then you should be the most joyful person on earth • Some walk around as if they were baptized in vinegar and weaned on a pickle • The Christian life should be marked with joy (Gal. 5:22)

  13. My God & I • 2. Our language will abound with kindness • The way we speak to others should be with kindness and not mean spirited (Eph. 4:29-31) • Our speech should be with grace, seasoned with salt (Col. 4:6) • The kindness that Christ showed to the lost is what we will emulate

  14. My God & I • 3. Our actions will be driven by love • Jesus told His disciples that the way people will tell them apart is by their love (Jn. 13:35) • We are taught by Christ that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matt. 22:39) • We are commanded not to merely love in word or tongue, but in deed and truth (I Jn. 3:18)

  15. My God & I • 4. Our faith will spring forth and blossom • You cannot spend time with God and not grow from the experience • Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17) • The more we hear the more faith that we will have

  16. My God & I • 5. Our influence will be far reaching • When Jesus was upon the earth, people flocked to Him • While we may not have some of the unique qualities that He had, we can influence others • The first century church had favor with all the people because of time spent with God (Acts 2:47)
