  3. What is Gothic Art • Gothic Art is a medieval art style that started in France. It spread through Western Europe. It never really eclipsed more classic styles in Italy.

  4. 2 Terms in Gothic Art • Flying buttress-a masonry structure that typically consists of a straight inclined bar carried on an arch and a solid pier or buttress against which it abuts and that receives the thrust of a roof or vault • Fresco- mural painting types; executed on plaster, on walls, ceilings or any other type of flat surface.   6. Pulpit of the Pisa Baptistery The Pulpit of the Pisa Baptistery was made by Nicola Pisano. The pulpit sits on a column raised pedestal. It contains scenes from Christ’s life.

  7. Altar of VeitStross This altar is the largest in the world. As the name would suggest, it was made by VeitStross. It was made between 1477-1489 at a cost of around 2000 gulden. During WWII, ObergruppenführerHans Frank had it removed. It was recovered in 1946 in Nuremburg castle. It was restored And back on display in about 10 years. It was restored several times: before 1600, then in 1866–1870, 1932–1933, 1946–1949 and finally, in 1999. It also contains scenes from Christ’s life.
