  2. 4 year/24 Credits Graduation Requirements Class of 2016 • 4 English • 4 Math: Must include Alg. 1 & Geo. ( EOC: Alg. 1 must pass, Geo. must take) • 3 Science: Must include Bio. ( EOC: Bio. must take) • 3 Social Studies (World Hist., US Hist. ( EOC 30 % of final grade) , US Gov & Econ.) • 1 Fine/Performing Arts • Physical Education ( .5 Physical Education -- .5 Personal Fitness) • 8 Electives • Passing score on Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading • Un-weighted Cumulative 2.0 GPA • Online Learning Course* must be completed prior to graduation • 2 World Language (admission to state universities)

  3. EOC Requirements Class of 2016 • Math • Algebra 1 must pass • Geometry required • Science • Biology required • Social Studies • US History 30 % of final grade

  4. Merit Designation Class of 2016 • In addition to meeting the standard high school diploma requirements: • Attain one or more industry certifications

Scholar Designation Class of 2016 • In addition to meeting the standard high school diploma requirements: • Pass the ELA Grade 11 Common Core assessment once implemented • 1 credit in Algebra II • 1 credit in statistics or an equally rigorous mathematics course • Pass the Biology EOC • 1 credit in chemistry or physics • 1 credit in a course equally rigorous to chemistry or physics • Pass the U.S. History EOC • 2 credits in the same world language • 1 credit in an AP or Dual-Enrollment course

  9. How is Grade Point Average (GPA) determined? Class of 2016 • Determined by all classes taken (points earned/number of classes taken) • Un-Weighted GPA • (A = 4PTS, B=3PTS, C=2PTS, D=1PTS, F=0PTS) • Weighted GPA • HONORS (.5 PT INCREASE, I.E. A= 4.5 PTS) • Dual-Enrollment ( 1.0 PT increase, I.E. A= 5.0 PTS) • Advanced Placement (1.0 PT increase , I.E. A=5.0 PTS)

TESTS Class of 2016 • PSAT • PSAT is administered Fall of Sophomore year • PSAT must be retaken in the Fall of the Junior Year to be considered for the National Merit Scholars Program • PSAT results may be used as SAT prep with • www.satcollegeboard.com • www.mycollegequickstart.com • FCAT is administered in the Spring of Sophomore Year • EOCs for Sophomore courses are administered in the Spring

  11. Online virtual educationGraduation Requirement! Class of 2016 • Student/Parent requests the course on www.flvs.net • Return a completed ‘Notification of Registration for Florida Virtual School Class’ form to the Guidance Office. This form requires student and parent signatures and reinforces FLVS/PVS grading policy. Form is available on the GJHS website. • Your counselor will check to make sure you’ve requested the correct course and approve the course. On your FLVS account, your course will show CRC (course request complete). • FLVS/PVS will place you with a teacher. FLVS may take a few weeks. PVS may take only a few days. Continue to check your FLVS account for placement.

Dual Enrollment Class of 2016 • Must be high school sophomores, juniors and seniors • Academic courses require a minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.0 • Vocational courses require a minimum un-weighted GPA of 2.5 • Obtain passing scores on sections of the ACT, SAT or PERT placement test that are relevant to the course(s) in which the student wishes to enroll. • Students are required to have taken each section of the ACT, SAT or PERT in order to take any dual enrollment course • Students are required to pass the English and Reading portions of the PERT, SAT or ACT in order to take English, social studies, humanities, etc • Students must take the math portion of the PERT for math or science placement. The SAT or ACT will only place a student into intermediate algebra (MAT1033) • Students are responsible for ensuring official score reports for the SAT and ACT are sent directly to the college

  13. 7 Steps to Dual Enrollment 1) Submit a completed Polk State College Application for Admission 2) Take and pass a state approved placement test (ACT, SAT or PERT) and, if ACT or SAT submit official score report to PSC 3) Submit a completed High School Approval Form for Dual Enrollment and Early Admission students to high school counselor 4) Confer with their high school counselor regarding course selection 5) High school counselor approves the course via Dual Enrollment Portal 6) PSC advisor registers the student for approved course(s) in person during dual enrollment registration 7) Take a printed copy of the fee sheet which includes the college schedule to the high school counselor and obtain a book voucher * Continuing dual enrollment students repeat items 3-7 each subsequent semester.   14. Dual Enrollment Class of 2016 • Sophomores are limited to one course per semester (maximum of 4 credit hours) • Dual Enrollment courses grades are included in the high school and college transcripts

  18. Gold Seal Vocational Scholars This scholarship can only be used for vocational certifications. Things EVERY Sophomore Should Do • Begin to think about what you will do after high school – • college, • vocational training, • field of study. • If you haven't already, look at possible careers and education requirements. • Maintain good attendance, grades and citizenship. • Take school work seriously because every year and course counts.
