Neurogenesis. Neural stem cells (NSC) were extracted from the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus of adult mice. NSC were induced to proliferate → “ Neurosphere ” formed Addition of Test compounds: Saline / Harmine / Tetrahydroharmine (0.5µM).

Neurogenesis • Neural stem cells (NSC) were extracted from the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus of adult mice. • NSC were induced to proliferate → “Neurosphere” formed • Addition of Test compounds: Saline / Harmine / Tetrahydroharmine (0.5µM). • Assessment of capacity of compounds to promote: • Early stages of Neurogenesis (young neurons): TuJ1 staining (green) • Neuronal Maturation (mature neurons): MAP-2 staining (red)

  2. Distal region of Neurosphere No effects after saline • Color code • Blue staining: cell nuclei (marks all cells) • Green staining: young neurons • Red staining: mature neurons

  3. Harmine Stimulates Neurogenesis in vitro… • Color code • Blue staining: cell nuclei (marks all cells) • Green staining: young neurons • Red staining: mature neurons

  4. …and so does THH • Color code • Blue staining: cell nuclei (marks all cells) • Green staining: young neurons • Red staining: mature neurons
