  6. Course vision This virtual class isourown « playground » wherewe are going to explore engagement, the development of a sense of community and collaboration practices in synchronous online courses. Process and personal/professional development more important than assignments and grades.

  7. Myrole My role is one of a facilitator so I’m there to: -provide the learning materials -create a safe learning environment -encourage discussion -ask questions -correct misconceptions -point out to important aspects -summarize the discussions I don’t lecture!

Yourrole -to take ownership of your own learning -to actively participate and interact with peers (for own learning/group learning) -to reflect and explore how to apply new knowledge to your own context -to acknowledge the personalized-learning environment -to strengthen your personal learning network

  10. Whatwewon’t do here ;-) • Thoroughlydiscussresearch design and methods (youwill do that in yourmethodology course). • Focus on the technical aspect of devices and gadgets. Wewant to focus on how technologycan best support learning. • Discuss the strike. I thinkweshould focus on whatwe have to accomplish as a cohort.

Whatwewill do here • Identifyyourinterests (the flippedclassroom, gamification in education, mobile learning, blendedlearning, virtualclassrooms…) and cater to yourneeds as much as possible. • Introduceyou to academicresearch. • Provideyouwithtools to effectivelylocate, use, read, critique and curateresearchpapers. • Have informal « warm-up » discussions. Pleasesuggesttopics.

  12. Course organization In order to prepare for each webinar: -choose, read and annotate one research paper from the suggested list for that particular webinar.

Course organization -reading lists will be posted in advance on the TIEgradpage -format allows for choices according to own particular interests When it is time to discuss a research paper, those who read it will likely be more active but everyone can interact and will benefit from the discussions.

As indicated in the course outline, you are expected to write three questions/comments on Twitter prior to the course and I will use those to facilitate the discussion during the webinar.

  15. Course organization We are very lucky because we’ll also have two wonderful guest speakers: Mariel Miller will help us explore self-regulated learning on Monday, July 14. Todd Milford will help us explore assessment in personalized learning on Monday, July 21.

Assignments Ongoing – Term , Twitter postings (25%)On Twitter, using the hashtag #tiegrad, please post three questions or comments on the real-world relevance/application of each research paper. You’re also invited to read your colleagues’ contributions and engage dialogue in order to prepare for the next webinar. I will use your questions/comments to facilitate class discussion.

  17. Assignments July 17, 2014 - Short bibliography (25%)Using academic search engines, please create a short bibliography of twenty recent (2012-2014) articles on the topic of your choice. Post your work on your own blog and send me the link (or simply email it to me) with a copy of the bibliography. A compilation of the themes, articles and their authors will be made public on the TIEgradpage.

  18. Assignments July 24, 2014 Panel discussion (50%)For your final assignment, please select one research paper from your bibliography, read it thoroughly and make some personal notes in order to prepare for the panel discussion at the end of the course. Individual presentations on related topics will be grouped into three or four panels. You will be asked to briefly present on your research paper (about 2 min.) and contribute to the panel discussion on research findings’ application to practice.
