    3. Day-to-day progress monitor Students indicate their progress and may leave comments for staff Staff may re-evaluate the progress and also leave comments Clear picture of progression through the scheme and through each assignment/sample teaching unit (STU)

    7. NC levelling Each assignment/STU suggests level descriptors that may have been met during the work The teacher ticks these off if they feel, with sufficient confidence, that the student has demonstrated the criteria

    8. The descriptors then form part of a profile on the student enabling their actual level to be easily read off The profile is viewable for a student or whole class, allowing a teacher to clearly see what needs to be covered to meet a particular target

    10. Certification Certificates indicating the National Curriculum levels that students have attained may be printed

    11. Summary Effective day-to-day record keeping Department-wide consistency in assessment Practical communication between staff and students De-mystifying of the levelling process Ability to download all information for use in local reporting software
