  2. How To Start a Movement • Derek Sivers – The Dancing Guy • http://sivers.org/ff

  3. To Recap: A leader needs: • Guts; the courage to look ridiculous • To be public about what (s)he is trying to accomplish • To be easy to follow • To embrace the first followers as equals

  4. To Recap: The first follower • Needs guts; also braves ridicule • Shows others how to follow • Invites other followers • Transforms a lone nut into a leader

  5. To Recap: • The 2nd follower: • Is the turning point • Follows publicly • Is the point at which 2 nuts become a crowd

  6. Do you need to be the dancing guy, the 1st follower or the 2nd follower? • They all need guts • They all need to be public about their involvement • They all need to promote the movement over their own role

  7. To be the dancing ‘guy’ • Create simple messages • That make it easy for people to join • Make it as public as you can • Invite everybody • Intentionally create other leaders

  8. To be an early follower • Publicly support other similar efforts • OFFER DATA • Demonstrate effective followership • Invite your friends • Help bring in outside experts • Contribute to visibility

  9. Or is it already a movement? • Supply data • Be public in your support • Promote common messages • Supply monitoring expertise • Include beneficiaries
