  1. Fracture of the thoracic spine: • Is a break of one or more of the 12 bones of the thoracic spine • Causes: • falling from a height • motor accidents • penetrating trauma.

  2. thoracic spine injury types: • Compressionfracture • burst • flexion-distraction • fracture-dislocation.

  3. Compressionfractures: • the most common type of thoracic spine fracture. • They occur when the spine is bent forward or sideways at the moment of trauma. • Burst fractures;- • are similar to compression fractures, except that the entire vertebra is evenly crushed

  4. Flexion-distraction fractures:- • it is a separation (distraction) of the fractured vertebra, • caused by: hyperflexion during the traumatic event. • Fracture-dislocations:- • the vertebral fractures are found in combination with displacement (dislocation) of adjacent vertebrae, • caused by high-energy trauma

  5. clinical features: • tenderness over the area of the fracture • numbness and tingling of the legs • Test: • Plain x-rays (anteroposterior and lateral views) will be taken initiallyand ct or MRI for more assessment
