  2. Biography of Lindsey Stirling • Lindsey Stirling was born on September 21, 1986 in Santa Ana, California. She then moved to Arizona where she lived until she graduated High school. • When she was a baby her father played classical music to her, which led her to interest in classical music herself. • At the age of five she began taking violin lessons, and she continued studying the violin for twelve years. • During her adolescence she studied the violin and was told all the time to stop dancing while she played. • She kept dancing away regardless of what other people thought or said, which developed into a talent she’s known for.

Biography of Lindsey Stirling Continued… • When Stirling turned 16 she decided to join rock band. • The band’s name was “Stomp on Melvin” • The band consisted of herself, and four of her friends/classmates from Mesquite High School. • Stirling was the violinist in the band and just a normal contributor to the music. • One day she performed a solo rock song on the violin. • The solo was played for the Arizona’s Junior Miss competition and won state title • Stirling later claimed the Spirit Award given out at the America’s Junior Miss Final

  4. Lindsey Stirling graduated high school and moved to Provo, Utah to complete yet another life dream of attending Brigham Young University to obtain a degree in recreational therapy. She stayed in Utah for approximately a year and a half at which time she released several videos on YouTube in 2007.

On her twenty first birthday Lindsey Stirling decided to take a break from music and school and set out on a new adventure. • She was a strong and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and she decided to serve a mission. • She was called to perform a mission in New York City, New York where she stayed until 2009. • When her mission was complete she returned to Provo, Utah to study at BYU and to continue with her music at which time she became a YouTube sensation once again.

Her activity and followers on YouTube gave her the confidence to try something new yet again and she decided to compete in the “America’s Got Talent” competition in 2010. • In 2012, Lindsey Stirling moved back to Gilbert, Arizona where she leaned on her family and friends so that she could attempt an even bigger career move, albums and tours. • While Sharon Osborn had once said on America’s Got Talent “You need to be in a group, what you’re doing is not enough to fill a theater in Vegas.” Lindsey Stirling has once again proven their opinions wrong. Stirling recently went on a tour around the world, has signed a deal with Lady Gag’s manager. • She has released two albums and received awards for her albums and performances in several countries such as Germany, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. • Stirling finished 2013 off at number two in “Classical Albums” and number three in “Classical Album Artist” on the 2013 Billboard’s

  7. “My Immortal “covered by Lindsey Sterling • 0:00-0:15 Introduction into song: Vocal “ahhh” opening the song and piano play to introduce the song to the first verse. It is slow and soft, and as it reaches 0:11 you can feel the energy increase until the violin begins in the next set. The volume is soft and gradually works up to that of a medium volume and tone. The piano is soft and not over powering of the synchronized vocal introduction. • 0:16-0:39 Verse I: the violin enters in and stays at a medium volume, soft tone, and steady rhythm as it works through the verse. • 0:40-1:24: Chorus: the violin volume increases and the sound of the piano comes into play once again, the rhythm stays steady for approximately 20 seconds before it slowly increases and then dies back out again to end the chorus. During the middle of the chorus the Violin volume is high and the Piano is medium. The tone is vibrant and you can feel the emotion being played through the strings. • 1:25-1:36 Vocal entrance of “ahhhh” enters again and the piano plays the same set as in the introduction. The violin ceases and the tone stays even. The volume is still medium. At 1:36 the symbols are played and you can hear the drums enter in. • 1:47-2:02 Verse II: Violin begins and continues forward with the volume increasing slightly and drastically • 2:03-2:39 Chorus plays again, the tone is more vibrant that the first time, the rhythm or tempo has sped up one and a half times and the piano and violin continue to play throughout the chorus. The piano is head at a medium volume while the violin is heard at a high volume and a strong tone. • 2:40-3:03 Directly from the chorus into the bridge, there is no decrease in tone, rhythm or volume. The rhythm increases and you can hear it stronger as the drums are vibrant and comes into play. • 3:04-3:07 The drums are heard at a high volume which the violin and piano return to a medium volume. The tone is still vibrant and dramatic. The rhythm increases drastically for a moment. • 3:08-3:46 The Chorus is replayed with the piano, violin, and drums in equal volume and with a strong tone. The rhythm stays increased and the drama of the song is felt through the music that is heard. • 3:47-3:55 The Drums and Piano stop the violin continues at a medium volume with the vocals reintroducing. • 3:55-4:00 vocals continue at a medium volume along with the piano. The tone is soft and the rhythm has slowed down until it ceases. • 4:00 – 4:05 The symbols are tapped with the rhythm at a low volume, no other instrument or noise is played and the song dies out.

The measure patterns is it starts out slow and soft, while increasing in vibrancy and volume to decreasing down again to begin another round. • 3:05 – 3:10 Violin pauses and the dubstep continues to increase in volume • 3:11 - 3:37 Violin enters in the Chorus is replayed for several counts continuing to increase and decrease with the flow of the measures. • 3:38 – 4:06 The violin holds out a long strong note and then brings the song to a close while keeping the pitch of the violin soft but loud and fading out the volume on the beat. • 0:00-0:13 Introduction- a slight dubstep beat begins and a • 0:14-0:27 A heavy beat plays through the second portion of the introduction unlong held out strung from the violin and then the dub step continues.til the first verse play. • 0:28 – 0:56 Violin enters in with the beat that played through the introduction. The volume of the beat fades to a medium volume while the violin become forte. • 0:57 – 1:02 The violin plays at a medium volume with no alternate influence of instruments. • 1:03 – 1:10 the violin continues to play while a Drum begins to beat slowly at first and slowly increasing in rate until it introduces and blends with the previous dubstep rhythm. • 1:11-1:39 The same 4 counts continue to repeat with the Violin and dubstep rhythm being synchronized by an electronic mixer. The Violin rings true as an acoustic string instrument and not that of an electric violin. • 1:40 – 2:23 The chorus of the song begins to play and repeat the same measures duplicate times, with every repeat of the measure the volume of the Violin increases slightly more while the electronic form of the dubstep beat dissipates in volume. The rhythm remains the same throughout the Chorus section of the song.

Listening Guide to Crystallize by Lindsey Sterling • 0:00 – 0:13 Introduction: the violin begins softly with a staccato rhythm and a soft volume. • 0:14 – 0:26The violin enters with full string strokes, a soft rhythm and no alternate variations of instruments • 0:27- 0:47 Dubstep rhythm enters in with the violin, both of them continue at a medium volume and soft tone. • 0:48 – 1:05 The Violin and Dubstep rhythm continue at a medium level, but the rhythm of the song doubles. • 1:06 – 1:36 The rhythm has now tripled from the beginning of the song and the Dubstep Rhythm tones have increased slightly in volume. You can begin to hear an “electronic mixer” to create a modern tone and beat which plays along with the same musical composure continues to play in recession. • 1:37-2:04 What would be called the Chorus of this classical piece begins, the electronic mixers fade down to a light volume and the volume of the violin increases to high. • 2:05-2:17 The Dubstep ceases and the violin continues at a medium volume. • 2:18 – 2:45 The violin continues at a medium volume and slowly begins to increase as the rhythm increases double. • 2:46 – 3:05 The electronic music dissipates and the Violin is joined with another violin or string instrument playing two separate but conjoining parts. • 3:06-3:34 Rhythm triples once again and the dubstep and electronic mixer enter in with the violin to play the same set over and over for 28 seconds. The tone increases on the electronic mixer and the volume increases on the violin. • 3:35 – 4:49 The tune continues as the violin electronic mixer and dubstep rhythm fade in and out slowly coming to an end. The electronic mixer is the first to fall out at the end, while the dubstep follows leaving the Violin as the solo instrument at the end of the song as it slowly fades into silence.
