Long term Goals • People who practice good nutrition, hygiene and exercise patterns develop a lifetime habit that will keep them healthy especially when they are older. • So it is important for the younger generation to know what type of nutrition is essential for them.
Short term goals • To enjoy sound health and well being we require food from all 4 food groups. • To maintain proper weight, a well balanced diet will give all the nutrients you need. • Food is the fuel for our body and we need the fuel for energy, to help our body grow and repair itself and to keep warm.
Instructional strategies • The teacher will begin the lesson with the vocabulary words nutrition, health, diet. • The class will then be asked about what they think are the best foods that help them keep healthy The lesson will be followed by the classification of food into 4 groups. • Then each food group will be explained individually . • A vegetarian diet will also be defined and the class will be asked to make a healthy diet chart for vegetarians.
Anticipated problems and solutions • Q: The class may be unaware of a healthy meal plan as the young ones are more attracted to sugary/oily foods. Ans: We must make them understand that Fats are not always good for health, it can also make us overweight or sick.
Q: The students might not know who a vegetarian is and what his/her meal consists of. Ans: The teacher may make a chart classifying and naming vegetarian food stuff separately.

Food is any substance normally eaten or drunk by living things. The term food also includes liquids , drinks Food is the main source of energy and of nutrition for animals, and is usually of animal or plant origin.
Proteins • Proteins are used by the body to: • enable growth, development and repair. • build structures such as muscles, tissues and organs, including the heart, lungs, digestive organs. • enzymes, such as those required for digestion. • hormones, such as those for the endocrine glands. • Proteins can be found mainly in meat, fish, eggs and lentils. This food group is needed by animals and plants for growth and repair of damaged tissue
Carbohydrates • Carbohydrates are mainly used by the body to produce energy. • Carbohydrates are substances that contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They are used in the body to produce energy. They include sugars and starches. Carbohydrates are usually obtained from plant sources
Fats • Fats have got themselves a bad name in recent times, yet they are an essential food. That is, the body requires its intake of fat every day for health . • Fats are substances that are not soluble in water. Fats are also called lipids.
Vitamins & Minerals • Vitamins and minerals occur in a variety of foods. That is, by eating a variety of foods, you can get the necessary vitamins and minerals you need for health.
Vegetarians • Vegetarians are people who don’t eat any meat, fish, chicken or eggs. • The people of Hindu religion are basically vegetarians who avoid eating any kind of meat due to their beliefs.

Conclusion • The lesson provides an awareness • To the young students as to how • to go about their daily meal plans • It also initiates knowledge about a proper healthy diet needed for energy and good health. • The students will also come to know the difference btw a normal and a vegetarian person and their diet at the end of the lesson
