PC Mission With students as our focus, Porterville College provides our local and diverse communities an excellent educational experience that fosters intellectual curiosity and growth, lifelong learning, and prepares our students for personal and academic success. Porterville College will: Provide quality academic programs to all students who are capable of benefiting from community college instruction. Provide comprehensive support services to help students achieve their personal, vocational and academic potential. Prepare students for transfer and success at four-year institutions. Provide courses and training to prepare students for employment or to enhance skills within their current careers. Provide developmental education to students who need to enhance their knowledge and understanding of basic skills. Recognize student achievement through awarding degrees, certificates, grants, and scholarships.

Need to redefine the PC Mission “Let’s be honest,” Scott said at a community colleges convention last year. “In the past, in our rush to serve the needs of many, we may have initiated classes and programs that we now can get rid of. We have engaged in what I call ‘mission creep.’ We did some good work, but not essential work.” He added that now was the time to “eliminate courses that are primarily avocational.” “No student wants to say, ‘Ok, cut my program. But it’s important for the colleges to look closely at the populations they serve, and the surrounding communities, and prioritize their needs.” California Watch Dog May 9, 2012

  7. CSUs and UC Admissions continue to Decline Cal State's campuses customarily receive roughly 70,000 applications in the spring. Under the plan now being considered, most of Cal State's 23 campuses will not accept new students. But eight campuses – Fullerton, Los Angeles, Channel Islands, Chico, East Bay, San Francisco, San Bernardino and Sonoma -- will take a few hundred transferring from community colleges for the spring 2013 semester.
