  3. Not many rules. . . But all rules are important Come to class prepared with an open mind and ready to learn Follow all Directions Be respectful and Polite Raise your hand to speak or get out of your seat Learn and have fun!

  4. Rules are useless without consequences for not following them • First Violation – Verbal reprimand and/or sign Discipline Log • Second Violation – Sign Discipline Log, and parental contact • Third Violation – Sign Discipline Log, and mandatory parental conference • Fourth Violation – Sign Discipline Log, after school detention, and a mandatory parent conference • Fifth Violation – Sign Discipline Log and Office Referral

  5. Materials needed EVERY class

  6. Show respect at all times • Enter the room in an orderly and quiet manner • Read front board for Daily Warm up and begin assignment • Turn in ALL assignments completed and on time • Be responsible in your study habits • Follow all rules and procedures

  7. Classroom Procedures allow for you to know what is expected in specific situations. Not following proper procedures is the same as not following directions and will result in a disciplinary violation

  8. Entering the room • Enter the room quietly • Sit down in your assigned seat • Remain Quiet • Check the board for Daily Warm up assignment • Complete the day’s warm-up • Check the board for the day’s activities and get the appropriate materials out

  9. Exiting the Room • Instructional time is precious to us, so do not pack up until instructed to do so • I dismiss the class • When you are dismissed be sure your area is clean • Place all trash in trash can as you leave the room • Leave the room in a quick, orderly fashion

  10. Tardies • You will be considered tardy if you are not in your seat when the tardy bell rings • If you are tardy you must sign the tardy log • The Tardy Log is located at the door • Consequences for being tardy are as follows: • First time – sign tardy log and contact parent • Second time – sign log and contact parent • Third time – sign log, contact parent, and conference with administrator • Fourth time – sign log, after school detention and letter of reprimand sent home • Fifth time – sign tardy log and office referral • Anyone who reports to class more than 5 minutes late must have a pass or will receive an office referral • Tardies accumulate throughout the nine weeks. At the beginning of each nine weeks everyone starts with a clean slate

  11. Restroom • Use the restroom BEFORE you come to class • No one will be allowed to leave the room unless called by the office, so DO NOT ASK!

  12. If you are absent • If you are absent you must bring an excuse in order to receive any makeup work • Place you excuse in the bin labeled “tardy slips/absent excuses” by the front door • I will sign it and give it back to you with any missed work before class is over • I will not give you any class notes given in a lecture that may have been missed, it is your responsibility to get a fellow student’s notes and copy them • You have three (3) days to return any make-up work • Tests and quizzes must be made up before or after school, so see me after class to make arrangements • You have three (3) days to make arrangements • It is your responsibility to make arrangements, I will not ask you when you can come take the test or quiz • Tests are announced a week in advance so if you miss the day before a test you are still responsible for taking the test

  13. Letter of responsibility • If you do not have an assignment you must fill out a pink slip • You have the opportunity to turn in your assignment later to replace the Letter of Responsibility, however you will be deducted 10 points

  14. World History Binder • You must have a 1” three ring binder for this class • This binder will be for materials used throughout each unit • You are responsible for the material in the binder • A table of contents will be written on the board so you know what needs to be in the binder • Keep your binder neat and organized • You will have one Binder test each unit for a major grade

  15. Dividers • Your World history Binder will need page dividers to stay organized • Tabs are as follows: • Class Syllabus/R & P • Maps • Class Notes • Class work

  16. Weekly Essays • At the beginning of each week you will be given a topic • You will research that topic throughout the week • On the last day of that week you will turn in a one page, typed essay on the topic • This assignment will be graded on content, grammar and spelling, so have someone proofread it • I will drop the two lowest grades for the nine weeks on these essays • If you are absent you are still responsible for turning in the essay

  17. Unit Projects • Each unit we cover will require a project • Each project is counted as a major grade • Units last approximately two weeks • You will be given guidelines for each project with plenty of time to complete project • Project are to be done outside of class unless prior arrangements are made to work on it before or after school • You are responsible for turning in the project on the due date

  18. Grading scale and procedures • Montgomery Public School Grading Scale: • 90-100 = A • 80-89 = B • 70-79 = C • 60-69 = D • 59 and below = F (Unacceptable) • Grades in World History are calculated as follows: • Major Grades (Tests, notebook tests, and projects) = 65% • Minor Grades (Homework, class work, quizzes, and weekly essays) 35%
