USCG Mission To graduate young men and women with sound bodies, stout hearts and alert minds, with a liking for the sea and its lore, with that high sense of honor, loyalty and obedience which goes with trained initiative and leadership; well grounded in seamanship, the science and amenities, and strong in the resolve to be worth of traditions of commissioned officers in the United States Coast Gurad in the service of their country and humanity USCG Motto Semper Paratus “Always Ready”

  3. History of the Academy • The Academy started in 1915 with the merger of the Life Saving Service and Revenue Cutter Service • The Academy moved to the present location in New London in 1932

  4. Famous Graduates Bruce E. Melnick USCG • Became an astronaut in 1988 • Logged more that 300 hours in space

Apply to the Academy Basic Eligibility Requirements To attend one of the service academies, applicants MUST: • be 17 but not yet 23 years of age by July 1 of year admitted. • be a U.S. citizen at time of enrollment (exception: foreign students nominated by agreement between U.S. and another country).

  8. Apply to the Academy Basic Eligibility Requirements (continued) • be of high moral caliber • be unmarried • not be pregnant or have a legal obligation to support a child or children • nomination by a Congressmen, Senator or the Vice President is NOT required
