Exploring AGN Properties: Insights from the COSMOS AGN Survey

The COSMOS AGN Survey aims to provide deep, wide-field insights into active galactic nuclei (AGN) down to Seyfert luminosities at redshift z~3. It utilizes bolometric measures of activity from X-ray, optical, radio, and infrared data, along with proxy measurements for supermassive black hole masses determined via broad lines. The survey examines the clustering of AGN in relation to large-scale galaxy structures and assesses the environmental dependencies of AGN luminosity and energy distributions. Key outcomes include high-redshift quasars statistics and 3D tomography of the intergalactic medium (IGM) through COS spectroscopy.

  2. COSMOS AGN SurveyScience Goals • Deep, wide-field AGN survey, down to Seyfert luminosities at z ~ 3 • Bolometric measures of activity from X-ray, optical, radio and IR data • Proxy for measure of supermassive black hole mass from broad lines • Statistical sensitivity to rare populations (obscured, BAL, etc) • New measure of AGN clustering relative to galaxy large scale structure • Environmental dependence of AGN luminosity and energy distributions • Host galaxies morphologies measured out to z ~ 1 with ACS data • Populations of high redshift (z > 4) quasars with superior statistics • 3D tomography of the IGM using COS spectroscopy of brightest quasars

  3. IMACS limit IMACS limit AGN locus 0.1 < Fx/Fopt < 10 X-Ray Selection Most efficient way to select AGN with x-ray… follow up all objects of iAB < 23.5 with IMACS Secondary targets and objects with iAB > 23.5 picked up by V-COSMOS
