  2. 1. Sunspots-small dense areas of gas that are cooler than the gases around it • 2. Prominences-loops of gas that jump from sunspots • 3. Solar Flares-prominences from different sunspot regions that connect • 4. Solar Winds-electrically charged particles that are produced by the sun and travel through space

Magnetic Storms-occur when solar flares increase the amount of solar winds given off by the sun • Affects the Earth’s atmosphere (ionosphere) • Disrupts radio and tv signals • Can cause power problems • 6. Auroras-occur when the protective layers of the atmoshpere are energized by solar winds and produce different colors of light
