Project history • S@C developed a prototype web-based environment to support the implementation of the Blueprint for Government Schools • To provide an ICT framework to allow the whole school community to engage • Pilot was funded by Treasury in 2004 • Original S@C team has been strengthened • Project sponsor is Darrell Fraser(Deputy Secretary OSE)

Since the last briefing… • Labor Financial Statement commitment of $60.5m • Ongoing professional development in pilot schools • All pilot teachers logging on and marking student attendance online • More teachers planning units of work • Prototype demonstrations • Engagement of key stakeholders • Development of project and RFT documentation

  6. Where are we now? • Pilot Evaluation Report has been completed • Business Case (draft) completed • Non-functional Requirements Specification • (draft) completed • Functional Requirements Specification ~50% • completed • Request For Tender ~65% completed

Progressofpilot • All pilot schools using the system • Schools marking student attendance rolls • Groups of students and parents accessing the Ultranet • TLF objects embedded in a shared repository • Teachers executing Term 4 2006 work using the Ultranet • Schools and DoE gaining up-to-date data on student attendance • Pilot evaluation completed

Evaluationmeasures • An enhanced learning environment for every student • Improved planning, preparation, sharing and delivery of learning materials by teachers • Improved capacity to track progress and manage learning pathways for every student • Improved reporting of student progress to parents, teachers and school administration

Evaluation summary • 627 teachers from 22 schools participated in the evaluation (12 pilot schools/10 matched schools) • Impact of the Ultranet was particularly noticeable in Primary Schools • Positive changes included access to technology, ideas and attitudes to technology and increased motivation to collaborate as a result of the Ultranet • Teachers and Administrators strongly expressed support and were enthusiastic about the potential of Ultranet
