  2. Henryk Mikołaj Górecki • A composer of classical music, was born on 6th December 1933 in Czernica, near Rybnik, Silesia, Poland.

  3. Górecki's work in the late 1950s and 1960s was characterised by a dissonant modernism . In the mid 1970s, he moved towards a 'pure' sacred minimalist sound, encapsulated by the 1976 Symphony No. 3. Though he has remained primarily a religious composer, Górecki has progressed through several distinct styles, from the reverence of Beatus Vir (1979), to the meditative Miserere (1981), to the spiritualism of Good Night (1990).

Compositions : • SYMPHONY NO. 2 "COPERNICAN" / SYMFONIA NR 2 "KOPERNIKOWSKA", OP. 31 for solo soprano and baritone, choir and orchestra (1972) • SYMPHONY NO. 3 "SYMPHONY OF LAMENTATION SONGS" / SYMFONIA NR 3 "SYMFONIA PIESNI ZALOSNYCH", OP. 36 for solo soprano and orchestra (1976) • In 1992, the THIRD SYMPHONY was first on the American and English bestseller lists, and the entire world was talking about Gorecki.
