  7. Power distribution board

  8. Power distribution board Power distribution board occupies this space. View from west end

  9. Power distribution board • MGBN DIST BOARD = 15.5Kg 4 OFF • EXTENSION BOX = 7Kg 4 OFF • MCB'S = 0.5Kg 48 OFF • DISCONNECT SW = 8Kg 4 OFF • 150x150 TRUNKING = 8Kg/M 3.5METRES • UNISTRUT CHANNEL = 2.8Kg/M 22 METRES • CABLE TRAY = 4Kg/M 6 METRES • CABLE (70mm) = 1Kg/M 24 METRES • CABLE (2.5mm) = 0.03Kg/M 432 METRES • APPROX WEIGHT ~ 300Kg Contents of the board and weights from Ian Mullacrane/john Webb

  10. South wall mezzanine and extra support for services South wall mezzanine False floor Thrust block (concrete plinth) Need concrete plinth finished and the floor underneath the false floor re-surfaced.

  11. South wall mezzanine and extra support for services Create new surface 300mm below the south mezzanine, using existing infrastructure, to route services from power distribution board and water pipes to compressors etc.

  12. Reinforce and recover the trench for integration with the rolling platform Trench at east end of the hall. Trench with rolling platform over the top.

  13. Reinforce and recover the trench for integration with the rolling platform Water pipes and services to avoid. Trench beams lowered to suit 20mm steel plate and reinforced mid span with vertical column. Steel plate acts as new cover and medium for rolling platform fasteners

  14. Tracker 10 tonnes AFC module 5 tonnes RF ASM 6 tonnes The three components (Tracker, AFC, RF) get moved over the trench Trench walls Require 20mm thick aluminium /steel plate ? shown by highlighted area with dashed line perimeter 6m

  15. Detail design work required.

  16. Reinforce RF amplifier floor • Each amplifier is weighs 2100lbs • Design work to reinforce floor for the RF amplifiers

  17. Vacuum support structure outside the hall Design work for Support structure Civil work to remove brick wall and make space for extraction conduits

  18. Lifting beams for the cooling channel • Andy Lintern has sourced lifting beams made to customers specifications. Steve Virostek is designing the lifting frame for the RF ASM, will provide a first draft for Willie’s input.

  19. Compressed air

  20. Compressed air John Govans working on schematic and cost of our own plant located outside the hall. Design work to determine air line routes and access points

  21. False floor

  22. False floor Andy Lintern design work on the false floor

  23. False floor Needs to be surveyed into position +/- 10mm? Meeting with regal to discuss construction.

  24. Extractor fan mice roof • When MICE is operating at high momentum (240 MeV/c) a worst case quench could cause all of the magnet modules to quench.  As a result, up to 500 liters of liquid helium will be vent 350 cubic meters of gas into the hall in about one minute (Mike Green). • Based on the 350mm diameter hole existing in the roof the maximum flow rate would be approx 1 cubic metre per second. •  If there was a release of  350 cubic metres of helium gas this fan would take 6 minutes to clear the hall of this amount of helium. • The fan could be set at a lower rate for normal running and then speed up when there was either a signal from the gas detection system or someone presses an emergency button. • Shall we go with this?

  25. Mice hall main door What is the current position?

  26. Air conditioning • 6 air conditioning units in storage • Once mezzanines complete when should we install? • North Mezzanine is complete. • South mezzanine complete in 6 weeks? • Need to route all services and support outlet fans (design work required). • Non trivial electrical services job needs doing (Chris White)

  27. Rolling platforms • Rolling platform #1 due in December 08 • Design work required to integrate this with the area over the trench as mentioned earlier. • New design required to support AFC module and RF ASM now that rolling platforms (air skates) are no longer to be used. Mike Zisman “With regard to spectrometer solenoid 2, I said two things. First, the stand is offset from where we expected it to be (by about 100 mm) and different from solenoid 1, which is also displaced. Second, I also noted that magnet 2 would be relocated as the experiment expanded, and that one had to look at its location in all MICE Steps, not just Step 6”.

  28. Services project • Model the cooling channel steps 1 to 6 as discrete models producing drawings of each step. • At each step, model all the connections to the services: • Vacuum • Compressed air • Cryogens • Water cooling • Nitrogen actuated values • Electrical • Put on a drawing all the services locations and routing around the hall. • Where can the vacuum pumps sit? (magnetic fields) • Compressor locations • Model the services and plant on the mice hall roof.

  29. Vacuum system Need to turn the table and schematic into drawings as mentioned in the services project.

  30. Cooling channel compressor layout, routing services to and from compressors • Compressor specifications,Steve Virostek has supplied information on Cryomech compressors. The Sumitomo coolers go with the trackers, Alan Bross is the contact person. • Locating compressors in the hall, • Design work, need to develop a system of stacking the compressors in two storey racks. • Feeding services to the compressors, • Design work, cables from power distribution board, cooling water, cold head hoses 20m long, vacuum jacketed, SS braided flexible hoses.

  31. The RF project • How do we get the RF amplifiers into their location? • We want to model the RF wave guides and the their route to the cavities. Should have information on this in approximately one month. • What else is involved?

  32. What else do we have to do? • Step II • Installation of diffuser • Diffuser/rolling platform air supply and control rack • Integration of tracker & spectrometer solenoid & patch panel • Install rolling platform #1 • Install TOF1 & reposition KL & route cables • Install TOF2 & cable • Install TOF1 shield • And a lot of other things!

  33. Electrical infrastructure • Request to use 350mm hole exiting the hall, previously allocated for miscellaneous Inert gases. Hole to be used as a means to supply power to the external fans that are required for both the hydrogen ventilation system and the main hall ventilation. • Holes in the shield walls for services, how many holes is too many with respect to the magnetic properties? (Mike Courthold) • Sub station, will it be in the hall, what option did we go for? May have effect on RF project. • Air conditioning (Chris White)

  34. What do we have to do? • Step III • Partly dismantle step I • Install rolling platform #7 • Connect pipework for air supply • Integrate tracker #2 & solenoid • Mount complete assembly on rolling platform #7 • Make all connections • Mount solid spool-piece • Insert LiH absorber • Status: • Rolling platform #7 due in December • Solid spool-piece is made and on its way – RAL will do leak-test • LiH absorber safety case for RAL in progress – or rather on the list! • As much of the work is duplicated, hope we learn from step II

  35. Dates & Milestones • Presently rather sketchy, hope that the reviews this week will fill in the gaps – infrastructure is largely driven by when the ‘big’ bits arrive • Step I • TOF1 arrives – mid November? (wild guess) • Beam stopper operational by 30th October • Step II • TOF 2 arrives February ‘09 • Solenoid arrives early-mid Jan ‘09 • Rolling platform installation and air supply ready mid-Jan • Compressor support installation & dist board end Jan’09 • Diffuser ready 20th November • TOF1 shield ready now • Step III • Tracker #2 ready ??? • Solenoid #2 arrives mid-March ‘09 • LiH absorber ??? • Spool-piece – finished
