SALT TOLERANCE OF SEEDS • Fold a blank, white piece of paper in half lengthwise and then in thirds. You should have 6 equal boxes. • Using a hand lens, observe one of your seeds. • In the top left box carefully sketch your seed, look for a dark line and flat spot • In the right hand box describe your seed in detail. Texture, shape, color, variations in color, etc. • Cover your seeds with the appropriate solution and place on back shelf
SALT TOLERANCE OF SEEDS • Title a piece of notebook paper “Salt Tolerance of Seeds” • Write a Question that describes what we are trying to investigate. • Write the heading HYPOTHESIS; write a prediction about your seeds. • Write the heading EXPERIMENTAL VARIABLES; in paragraph form, identify the independent variable (manipulated), dependent variable (responding), and at least four constants.
SALT TOLERANCE OF SEEDS • Retrieve your seeds, two paper towels, two ziploc bags, a marker, and a spatula • Carefully place your seeds on the paper towel and moisten with soaking solution • Using the hand lens, carefully observe, sketch, and describe one seed from each solution (compare to original). • Fold the paper towels in half and place in labeled ziploc bags • Clean your table and return materials
SALT TOLERANCE OF SEEDS • Retrieve seeds and count the number of seeds in each solution that have germinated (sprouted) • Record your numbers in the class data table on the board in the correct column • Below EXPERIMENTAL VARIABLES, write the heading DATA; neatly copy the data table onto your paper
