Transitioning to an Electricity Market: Insights from Thailand and Developing Asia

This seminar presentation by Smita Biswal explores the necessity of restructuring electricity markets to enhance consumer choices, competition, and service quality. Key topics include the transmission system's dependence on fundamental components, grid development, and privatization versus restructuring. It examines Thailand's EGAT model, detailing its role as a power generator and supplier, alongside its transition process to a competitive wholesale market. The paper also discusses developmental strides in China and proposes establishing a National Transmission Authority suitable for developing Asian countries during the transition phase.
