State Faculty Support Grant 2008-09 • CalPoly given ~ $150K/year in support of research by new faculty (2008 deadline 1/22/08; awards during Spring term 08, work must be completed by June 30, 2009) • Grants consist of- • Minigrants ~ $5K for ideas that could lead to external support • Student assistance • Supplies • Travel DIRECTLY related to the project • Can’t be used for equipment costing more than $2.5K • Can’t be used to compensate faculty • Assigned Time (up to 8 units) • Quarter Leave with full pay

  11. Center for Teaching and Learning • The CTLGP is designed to aid in achieving Cal Poly’s commitment to teaching excellence and the resulting quality enhancement of the learning experience. Its purpose is to assist faculty at the assistant and associate professor ranks (probationary or tenured) to engage in course enhancement activities, particularly course redesign or course development through assigned time, travel support, equipment, and/or funding for student assistance

  12. Center for Teaching and Learning Phase INo proposal required. First workshop will be held on Monday October 1, 2007 from 1-3pm in 510B.To register for the workshop, email jgrimes@calpoly.edu. Up to 25 awards on first come, first served basis. • $1,000 stipends for attending on-campus workshops on developing hybrid/blended courses by incorporating technology interfaces into course design. Phase IIProposals are due on November 13, 2007. • Four units of assigned time and other support including student assistants and access to instructional designer. Up to 8 awards with a proposal required by November 13, 2007. Purpose is to design/redesign a section(s) of a course to improve student learning by incorporating technology as a integral component of instruction and based on sound pedagogy.

  15. Center for Teaching and Learning Grant proposals should contain references to- • Objectives • Outcomes • Rubrics • The use of technology (primarily Blackboard)

Student Research Competition • Students (grad or undergrad) and faculty mentors create a description of a research idea summarized in 5 pages along with a 3 page (max) set of supplementary materials. • Students present their ideas to the Grants Review Committee and a subset are selected to present at an annual competition held at a CSU campus. • Funds available to support students and faculty for a trip to the competition.
