Step 1: Class discussion • Discuss what the JSC is • one student from each grade who share and act on ideas to connect BFPS to the wider community, collect and share ideas from our own grades on improving BFPS, develop leadership skills. • Discuss responsibilities of JSC members • attending regular JSC meetings which can sometimes go into lunch time • confidently sharing ideas from your grade with the JSC • talking to your grade and year level about JSC events and fundraisers • representing BFPS on community based excursions • developing your leadership skills by working with others in team challenges, conferences and events • running and contributing to JSC meetings and fundraisers….

  3. Step 2: Class brainstorm • Skills required of a JSC representative • Listening skills, organisation, willingness to try new things, teamwork… • Values required of a JSC representative • Friendliness, respect, community, care…

  4. Step 3: Decide • Will I make a suitable JSC representative for our grade? • Can I demonstrate those skills? • Do I demonstrate those values? • Do I want to be a JSC rep and why?

  5. Step 4: Apply • Create an application to present to your grade which explains why you would be the most suitable representative for your grade. Make sure you give reasons and examples. You could write a speech, draw a picture, make a poster or create a Powerpoint presentation. • Present your application to the grade. • I would make a suitable JSC representative because….

  6. Step 5: Class vote • After listening to and viewing all of the applications, the grade votes for their preferred Junior School Council representative. Remember to vote for someone who demonstrates the skills and values you are looking for in a rep. • This person will be the representative for the grade for the whole year.
