  6. The Resource Development Plan • Why write it up? • Forces strategic thinking • Tool for coordination (you’re not the only one responsible for securing revenue) • Preparation for succession • Demonstrates capacity and potential for leveraging to funders • Sections will be reused as templates – maintains consistency • Defining the mission and the brand – an organizational summary • Need statement • Capacity statement • Project descriptions • Organizational budget • Revenue goals • List of potential sources • Leveraging media and endorsements from key partners and supporters • Other strategic considerations • Resource development infrastructure • Tasks, timelines, assignment of responsibility • Tracking tool

  8. Grant Applications • How much do they matter? They matter. • Comparing application formats • Developing templates and maintaining consistency – no extraneous deliverables • Quality control, quality control, quality control

  10. Media and Public Relations • Media packet – Press release, Org. summary, Key bios, Relevant media clippings • Press releases – only if it is newsworthy • Press conference – only with partners and public officials • Designated spokesperson • Media contact list • Don’t shape organizational events for the media • Keep your key constituencies informed • Do meetings with public officials and editorial boards • Damage control happens in the first 24 hours
