  1. First Year Experience (FYE) Assessment The background . . . Recurring “themes” around “advising” • without students getting help from advisers and counselors, it's hard for them to make the right choices • counselors and advisers are often giving students advice based upon little information from faculty • most students do not see advisers, don't have good information on course requirements, etc; faculty may not be aware of this • isn't it reasonable to limit 1st semester unit load, enforce placements tests, . . . Etc.

  2. Defining the problem more clearly • It’s not just “they don’t have the skills” or a prerequisite issue . .
